March 31, 2009
WESTERVILLE, Ohio–Exel recently began order fulfillment and assembly services at ABB’s new 240,000-square foot North American logistics center in Groveport, Ohio. This centralized operation will help ABB improve inventory and order accuracy and its on-time order performance.

Exel associates handle products from the ABB low-voltage products business, which includes industrial control products, circuit protection devices, automation controls and components, terminal blocks, contactors, motor starters, control relays and timers. Value-add services provided by Exel include assembly, kitting and final product configuration.

Exel collaborates with its sister company, DHL Global Forwarding, to transport products to the logistics center from multiple ABB manufacturing plants in Europe. Products also arrive from locations within the U.S. Shipments are prepared for distribution and then transported to locations throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

In the beginning, ABB will use 108,000 square feet of the space available at the facility. The remaining space is open to future expansion by ABB.

This is the first time Exel and ABB have worked together in the U.S. DHL is ABB’s leading global logistics service partner.
