The Automotive Industry Action Group's (AIAG, Detroit) 11th annual Auto ID Showcase on April 26, will delve into automatic identification (auto ID) technologies to ensure increased efficiency and productivity in the automotive supply chain.

The full-day event-at a new venue, Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, Michigan-will spotlight how 2-D direct parts marking, bar coding, RFID and emerging technologies can deliver productivity gains, reduced errors, cost reductions and more.

"AIAG's Auto ID Showcase is the premier event for the automotive industry to hone and sharpen its portfolio of auto ID technology tools," said J. Scot Sharland, AIAG executive director. "Given the industry's growing commercial interdependence and the complexity of our global supply chains, part tractability and identification have become critical to both productivity and profitability. Competitive market mandates for shorter production lead-times, zero defects and increased government regulations, including the TREAD Act and ELV Directive, can only be realized via seamless data management and standardized reporting."

An update will be presented on AIAG's progress to revise its Tire and Wheel Label Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Standard. This monumental effort will allow for a single RFID tag for tires to meet the global requirements of multiple industries (automotive, retail, commercial, industrial and military).

The keynote presentation will be given by Jim Murphy, assistant manager, purchasing division; North American logistics, transportation/systems department, Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc., who will highlight how the company uses auto ID.

In addition, industry experts from DaimlerChrysler AG, Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp., Advanced ID Corp., Freedom Technologies, Hand Held Products, Inc., QED Systems, ToolWorx and TRW Automotive will deliver presentations and case studies to educate the supply chain about auto ID.

The event agenda can be viewed at http://mows.aiag.org/staticcontent/autoidattendee.pdf.

On the exhibit floor, auto ID-related solutions from 30 vendors will be displayed.
