PHILADELPHIA, PA - (March 27, 2006)—X reads the spot for AXIOM-X™, the most innovative andreliable bar code scanner from Accu-Sort® Systems. AXIOM-Xis built on a modular system that provides higher read rates, greaterflexibility and lower total cost of ownership than previous systems. And itdoes so in a compact, maintenance-free design.

AXIOM-X is an omnidirectional laserreader housed in a rugged, modular enclosure that offers up to 1,120 scans persecond. It also offers the largest transport coverage in its class. One simplescan head is needed for most applications, saving the cost and complexityassociated with a multiple scan head solution.

“Why use multiple scanners tocover a large read area when one AXIOM-X can do it alone?” said MikeBosha, product manager for Accu-Sort. Multiple AXIOM-X units are easilynetworked using a standard client/controller configuration. This eliminates theneed for an additional multiplexer and makes tunnel configurations seamless. That makes the system ideal for a variety of industries, including parceldistribution, retail/wholesale distribution, airline baggage handling and tiremanufacturing. AXIOM-X easily handles applications such as multi-sided arrays,high-speed parcel sortation, high-speed material handling and manufacturing.

“With AXIOM-X, there are nomore ‘lost parcels,’” Bosha said. “AXIOM-X usesmultiple lasers and receiving optics to ensure constant scanning and focusingover the complete depth of field, even with parcels of differing heights thatare side-by-side on the transport. This ensures that there are no missed labelsor miss-sorts."

Accu-Sort has made installationfaster by creating a single unit with a modular scan head and wiring base. Themodular system simplifies installation and reduces repair and replacementdowntime. The plug-in scan head is available in 2- or 4-laser configurations thatallow users to pick the correct “horsepower” for their application.AXIOM-X also shares the same wiring base, power supply and mounting bracketswith the rest of the AXIOM family to reduce costs and installation time.

To lower the total cost of ownership,Accu-Sort built the AXIOM-X without fans or filters, so there is nonon-value-added maintenance time needed. A single person is able to install thesmaller, lighter units.

Accu-Sort also has made setup andoperation easier with its upgraded AXCESS™ software. AXCESSprovides a familiar user interface that enables reader configuration withoutthe need for onsite service. The software has the ability to learn match codesand offers several bar code filtering options. It provides full functiontrigger control for the laser, which saves laser life, and increased DRX®sampling frequency for higher read rates. DRX is Accu-Sort's patented decodingtechnology that uses partial scans to reconstruct bar codes with 100 percentaccuracy.

Operation is easier with built-instorage modules that retain parameters in both the scan head and wiring base.In the event replacement ever becomes necessary, customers can replace the scanhead and the correct parameters are installed with the push of a button.

AXIOM-X offers several data transferoptions, including UDP messaging, EtherNet/IP, EtherNet TCP/IP, serial and I/Ostandard connections. AXCESS software allows users to configure and monitorAXIOM-X readers from anywhere in the facility.

No costly additional peripherals areneeded for most applications.
The AXIOM-X is an enhancement toAccu-Sort’s popular AXIOM product line. Bosha said the technology thatpowers Accu-Sort’s newest generation of scanners has proven itself in thefield for more than two years “AXIOM-X is capable of handling the mostdemanding applications,” he said.
