FedEx Express (www.fedex.com) is establishing a new regional headquarters in Shanghai, scheduled to open on December 1. It will maintain its Asia Pacific Headquarters in Hong Kong. The carrier does not anticipate the Shanghai facility impinging on its local Hong Kong and Taiwan operations.

FedEx presently serves more than 220 cities in China and looks to serve an additional 100 over the next five years.

Michael Ducker, FedEx Express executive vice president, says, “China is one of the fastest-growing and most complex markets in the world. The new structure will enable us to better serve our customers’ increased needs for global transportation solutions and strengthen our competitiveness in the market.”

DHL (www.dhl.com) is already in 318 cities in China, with 42 offices, 160 stations and 700 trucks. It has announced plans to triple its capacity three-fold over the next five years, with an investment of $200 million.

Previously, DHL teamed with the China National Foreign Trade Transportation – a state-owned logistics company -- in a joint venture, called DHL Sinotrans.
