WITRON Integrated Logistics was awarded the order to build and design a new 300,000 square foot, state-of-the-art distribution center for CVS that will be the first of its kind in North America. The new facility, which will open in Ennis, Texas in 2004, will operate using the WITRON "Dynamic Picking System" (DPS).

Cost savings include lower labor cost, lower real estate costs and improved picking accuracy. The new facility will be about half the size of a conventional DC built to service a comparable amount of volume. The system uses extensive Automatic Storage and Retrieval System technology to present items to the picker automatically as requested. According to Kevin Smith, CVS senior vice president for supply chain and logistics: "As CVS continues to grow, entering new high-population growth markets in the West and Southwest, we are hopeful that this will be our model for the future DC expansion."
