Minneapolis, MN - The newly released DeviceMaster® AIR wireless device server from Comtrol Corporation is the first to enable users to connect serial or Ethernet devices to an Ethernet network either “wirelessly” using the 802.11b industry standard or using standard wire. The new product can wirelessly connect serial devices or other devices that would typically use a wired Ethernet connection. And since the DeviceMaster AIR connects in either a wired or wireless mode, users can opt to use wired connectivity as a fail-safe backup in the event that their wireless connection is unavailable. No other device server in the industry offers this range of connectivity.

“The scope of this new product is very exciting because it offers connectivity in so many ways,” said Lee Stagni, president and COO of Comtrol. “We believe it will be the solution of choice for many of our systems integrator partners who need the versatility that it delivers.”

DeviceMaster AIR is ideal for connecting devices used in automation applications where running serial or Ethernet cables is not practical or possible. Product highlights include:

- One (DB-9) serial port for establishing a wireless Ethernet connection to a single serial device

- One (RJ45) Ethernet port for establishing a wireless Ethernet connection with
any DeviceMaster device server supporting multiple (4, 8,16, or 32) serial devices, or
any other Ethernet-ready device

- Serial tunneling mode that establishes communication between two serial devices over the Ethernet

- Proven technology, surge protection, and a stainless-steel housing for superior reliability

- On-board processor to host data acquisition or device control programs

- Web browser-based configuration, monitoring, and management

- Tested and certified compatibility with D-Link® and other 802.11b access points
