Frost & Sullivan (San Antonio), a research and consulting firm, awarded Intermec Technologies (Everett, Wash.) its 2006 Supply Chain Management Enabling Technology of the Year Award for its EL10 micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS). The EL10 performs 500 scans per second, 10 times faster than conventional laser scanners, and can potentially scan up to 4000 times per second. Applied to material handling applications, the new technology can enhance the speed of scanning and improve data collection processes.
