EVERETT - Intermec Technologies Corp. announced it has signed a Solutions Technology Integrator (STI) agreement with Cisco Systems Inc. As part of the company's new role, Intermec will leverage its strengths as an applications/solutions provider with extensive professional services expertise on behalf of Cisco, the industry's leading infrastructure provider.

Cisco's STI partners are technology manufacturers that sell, service and support solutions directly or indirectly to end users as part of an integrated hardware, software, and service offering. These offerings contain specified Cisco technologies as a critical component.

"This new go-to-market channel model will help Cisco enter new vertical markets such as retail and healthcare and other technology markets that we traditionally haven't focused on," said Edison Peres, vice president of Advanced Technologies, Worldwide Channels at Cisco Systems. "The STI agreement recognizes Cisco partners such as Intermec for having the ability to manufacture and sell integrated solutions. Forging these relationships will help accelerate the adoption of Cisco technologies in key vertical markets."

As a Cisco Solutions Technology Integrator, Intermec will offer Cisco wireless options to its direct customers and its extensive partner community. In addition, Intermec will participate in the Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) program, incorporating Cisco's wireless technology into its rugged handheld devices. The agreement means IT professionals in companies with Cisco wireless backbones can rely on Intermec to implement and support their Cisco wireless infrastructure with the performance requirements of an industrial data collection system.

Intermec offers the broadest range of data collection, mobile computing, wired and wireless connectivity, data collection printer and media solutions available from one company. Its data collection equipment is built to withstand the rigors of a variety of real-world environments.

"Given Intermec's 18 years of hands-on experience implementing wireless systems, along with our extensive line of wirelessly enabled printers and terminals, it was only natural for us to partner with Cisco Systems, the world leader in enterprise wireless networking," said Intermec Vice President Dick Mahany. "We now can provide companies that have adopted Cisco as their wireless backbone standard proficient implementation and support services, as well as a broad array of Cisco network-compatible products capable of meeting the most challenging automatic data collection systems."
