OTTAWA, Ohio—A man was killed this week in an accident involving a stretch wrapping machine.

A long-time maintenance worker, Nicacio Garcia, was working on the machine when it malfunctioned. Sheriff Jim Beutler said officials got the call of a man trapped in a stretch wrapping machine. The accident occurred at the Hirzel Canning Co. Hirzel cans tomatoes at the facility under the brand name of Dei Fratelli.

"The only thing we know at this point is the individual was working on a machine that wraps banding around pallets," Beutler says. "For some unknown reason, there was a malfunction on the machine, and it trapped the individual."

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The accident remains under investigation.
