Unparalleled flexibility allows MS4800 to address simple or complex machine guarding applications, with a transparent, built-in look and feel ideal for OEMs

FREMONT, CA – Omron Scientific Technologies, Inc. introduces MiniSafe® MS4800 series safety light curtains. Designed to satisfy the most demanding machine safety applications, the MS4800 is available in Advanced, Standard and Basic versions to optimize the cost of safeguarding design. The MS4800 enable users to purchase as many features they need, without paying for those they don’t.

Despite it’s compact size the MS4800 is big on available features. A cascaded configuration reduces cabinet space requirements and provides an effective guarding solution in multi-sided and dual-axis guarding applications. Optical scan codes eliminate cross talk, which enables OEMs to consistently build identical machines without staggering the transmitter and receiver position. Individual Beam Indicators simplify alignment, External Device Monitoring ensures control reliability, and Machine Test Signal allows the machine control system to confirm proper operation of the light curtain safety outputs.

Advanced and Standard models allow users to select Automatic Start or Start/Restart mode for point-of-operation or perimeter guarding. These models are also loaded with blanking features ideal for ingress and egress applications such as presses and mills, among others. Fixed blanking allows tooling or other machine parts to permanently obstruct a portion of the protected zone, floating blanking allows process material or other parts to transit through the detection zone, and monitored blanking combines the two, all while protecting the machine operator and without sending a stop signal to the machine.

A reduced resolution feature allows larger objects to enter into the guarded area without sending a stop signal to the machine. This can be helpful, for example, to allow a transfer cart to enter a robot’s safeguarding space for unloading. When coupled with a low-cost RM-6 resource module, MS4800 Advanced models also offer muting functionality.

Advanced and Basic models can be used with an intuitive and easy-to-use Programming Diagnostic Module (PDM). Users can reduce downtime and maintenance cost by reading detailed diagnostic codes and troubleshooting remarks from the PDM. The intuitive configuration interface can speed commissioning of the machine. The MS4800 transmitter and receiver both have a PDM port to allow independent configuration and troubleshooting of the units. Standard models can be configured through selector switches under an access cover.

The MS4800 family is available resolutions ranging from 14 mm to 40 mm (0.55 in. to 1.57 in.), with sensing ranges from 7 m (23 ft.) for 14mm resolution systems and 20 m (65 ft.) for 20, 30 and 40 mm resolution systems. The MS4800 provides protected heights from 280 to 1800 mm (11 to 70 in.) for 14 and 20 mm resolution systems, 360 to 2120 mm (14 to 83 in.) for 30 mm resolution systems, and 360 to 2160 mm (14 to 85 in.) for 40 mm resolution systems.
