Welcome to Cleveland, host to the 2006 Material Handling & Logistics Show and Conference (NA2006) sponsored by the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA). Bring your coat to ward off the crisp March weather; NA2006 takes place March 27-30, 2006 at Cleveland's International Exposition Center (I-X Center).
Billed as one of North America's largest 2006 trade shows and educational conferences devoted to manufacturing, warehousing, distribution and logistics solutions, NA2006 will feature more than 400 exhibitors from industry, commerce and government displaying material handling and logistics equipment, systems and technologies on the 150,000 sq.-ft. show floor.
On Tuesday, March 28, John Nofsinger, MHIA's CEO will lead a team presentation that includes an overview of the state of the material handling industry. Also on Tuesday, a free executive forum, Breakthrough Achievements in High-Performance Supply Chains, will be held before the show opens. Speakers include Paul Matthews, senior vice president, Limited Logistics Services, Inc., The Limited; Jose A. Mejia, president, Supply Chain Networks, Lucent Technologies; and Jon Wettstein, vice president, operations, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. The panel will discuss what strategic decisionmaking means; how to assess and manage associated risks; and most important, how to define and measure the returns from capital investments in supply chain infrastructure.
The NA2006 show floor is divided into four solution-specific sections: equipment and components for manufacturing, fulfillment and delivery, information technology and assembly logistics and support. An educational conference runs concurrently with the show and focuses on improving productivity in these four areas of material handling and logistics.
A specially designed radio-frequency identification (RFID) educational center will feature 45-min. focused presentations by industry experts. Sessions and demonstrations will range from material-flow tracking and container management, to general manufacturing and health-care applications.
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, a schedule of half-hour seminars, hosted by industry experts, will be conducted in specially designed theaters on the show floor. Also, new to the show-floor theaters in 2006, is expanded seating capacity to 120. Seating will be handled on a first-come, firstserved basis.
In addition to the on-floor seminars, NA2006 will include detailed workshops sponsored by the Material Handling Institute on Saturday and Sunday prior to the NA2006 Show opening. These full-day to a day-and-a-half workshops, provide comprehensive coverage of traditional subject matter as well as leading-edge topics related to implementing lean supply chains, the concept of true accounting and realizing an organization's full performance. Attendees must register separately for these workshops.
The Strategic Planning of Supply Chain Facilities is a comprehensive Short Course that was first introduced at Pro-Mat 2005. Returning by popular demand, this two-and-a-half day course begins at the I-X Center on Tuesday afternoon and ends Thursday afternoon. The Material Handling Institute joins Richard Muther & Associates and the St. Onge Company to integrate subject matter that has been delivered worldwide. Separate registration and fees apply are required for this course as well.
