New Fast-charge System Gets UL Approval

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—Electric Transportation Engineering Corp. (eTec), a subsidiary of ECOtality Inc., announced it has received Underwriter's Laboratories Inc. (UL) approval for its new line of Minit-Charger SC battery fast-charge systems and will begin shipping the chargers on Aug. 1.

The SC charger is a high-frequency, single-connector charger designed for medium- and heavy-duty applications. It provides 250 amps of output and can fast-charge battery systems of 36 volts or lower four times faster than conventional chargers, according to eTec. The charger can be mounted on a pole or wall to save floor space and also has data collection capabilities.
