WEST PALM BEACH, FL - DRS Tactical Systems, Inc., a unit of DRS Technologies, Inc., today announced the launch of a new line of Hammerhead rugged computing products - the Hammerhead and Hammerhead Xtreme. With exclusive data protection technologies, "anywhere" connectivity and comprehensive selection of display options, including a reflective display for use in bright sunlight, this 8th generation tablet computer is the ideal solution for industrial and government customers interested in protecting valuable data and increasing worker efficiency. DRS' patented ShutOut™ technology seals and protects all Hammerhead computers from water, dirt and other harmful contaminates. Inside the new rugged tablets, the company's proprietary ProtectIT™ and QuickBack™ technologies greatly enhance data protection, ensuring that critical information is protected from corruption and loss. ProtectIT™ safeguards valuable data by retracting the drive heads when extreme shocks or acceleration occur. If the computer experiences data corruption, the QuickBack™ recovery system immediately recovers critical data by "turning the clock back" to a point in time prior to data loss or system failure. "We designed the Hammerhead and Hammerhead Xtreme to withstand the daily rigors of field use and the extreme environmental conditions so prevalent in transportation, utilities, manufacturing and other industrial environments." said Al Zimmerman, Executive Vice President, DRS Tactical Systems. "While other rugged tablet manufacturers focus on engineering from the outside in, we view design and development from both perspectives - protecting data from the outside in and the inside out. As a result, out innovative designs and patented systems encapsulate and protect most critical data."
The computers' integrated wireless LAN 802.11 a/b/g and Bluetooth®, as well as optional WAN (GPS, GPRS capability), make connectivity anywhere possible. Field workers now can communicate more efficiently and quickly upload and download important files and information, which help to eliminate downtime. Additional features and other technical highlights include: • Windows XP® Tablet PC Edition 2005 • Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology with Intel® Pentium® M Processor • Wi-Fi, IEEE 802.11 a/b/g for connectivity anywhere • 512MB or 1 GB memory • Shock-mounted 1.8-inch 40GB or 60GB hard disk drive • Integrated Ethernet and integrated FlexSpace™ radio options, including GPS, GPRS and Bluetooth® wireless cable management • Milled aluminum housing (Hammerhead Xtreme) or rugged magnesium housing (Hammerhead) with ShutOut™ sealing technology • Touch or Pen • Optimal displays for all working environments: 10.4-inch transmissive SVGA (800x600 pixels) and XGA (1024x768 pixels) for indoor use, All-Vis SVGA (800x600 pixels) for indoor/outdoor use and reflective XGA (1024x768 pixels) for direct-sunlight outdoor environments • Dual-hot swappable Li-ion smart batteries • Optional heater package for booting in extremely cold environments • One-year comprehensive warranty, including a direct line to customer support ABOUT DRS TACTICAL SYSTEMS: DRS Tactical Systems, a unit of DRS Technologies, is a leading designer and manufacturer of ultra-rugged, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) - based computers, laptops, workstations, displays, handheld devices and integrated peripheral products for military and commercial markets.
