FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.—Jervis B. Webb Co., a subsidiary of Daifuku Co. Ltd., will supply six SmartCart AGC automatic guided carts (AGCs) to Solutia Inc., a provider of performance materials and specialty chemicals.

The AGCs will be used in Solutia’s plant in Pensacola, Fla., to pick up pallets from a powered roller conveyor and transport them to a gravity roller conveyor, where they are directed to a reject lane, dock or warehouse area. The AGCs are equipped with roller conveyor decks. The 2,000-pound pallets carry bags or boxes filled with Vydyne nylon pellets, which add durability and heat resistance to diverse products, such as hairdryers and automotive roof racks.

SmartCart AGCs are automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) designed for moving products on an assembly line or transporting goods throughout a plant or warehouse. They are guided by magnetic tape.

Solutia already uses Webb AGVs in its Pensacola and Decatur, Ala., plants to transfer heavy loads of raw material.

“The SmartCart AGCs will allow Solutia to increase production efficiency and lower operating costs at their Pensacola facility,” says Bruce Buscher, vice president of sales and marketing for the Jervis B. Webb Co. “The SmartCart AGC system also will be able to communicate with its existing Webb AGV system, helping Solutia effectively leverage both material handling investments.”
