The American Trucking Associations (ATA) announced it had agreed not to pursue expansion of federal truck size and weight limits. In return, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) agreed to withdraw its support for legislation to extend the reach of the current freeze on truck sizes and weights.

The "truce" will last for the period of the Transportation Efficiency Act (TEA-21) reauthorization and means neither association will pursue H.R. 2180, the Safe Highways and Infrastructure Prevention Act. The bill would have prevented the use of longer combination vehicles (LCVs) permitted in some states.
