Occupational safety and health professionals as well as representatives from law enforcement and academia met last week at UPS headquarters (Atlanta) to discuss ways to improve fleet safety.

Hosted by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE, Des Plaines, Ill.), the two-day symposium addressed various technologies for improving driver safety and reducing roadway accidents. Hot topics included the use of in-vehicle cameras and vehicle tracking systems.

Attendees also learned about current pilot programs aimed at understanding driver behavior and discussed ways to diagnose fleet safety systems and integrate safety into the employee retention process.
