Unified Western Grocers is building a new plant in Stockton, Calif., that will be operational by second Quarter 2007. It recently contracted SeayCo Integrators Inc. (Conyers, Ga.) and D. L. Neu & Associates (Byron Center, Mich.) to design a new wave control system with the capacity to sort 140 cartons per minute and use radio-frequency scanning technology. Unified is a retailer-owned wholesale grocery cooperative, headquartered in Commerce, Calif. that services the Western United States. With more than $3 billion in sales, Unified is expanding with a new facility that will combine perishable goods and dry grocery items.
