United Supermarkets to Build New DC

Oct. 26, 2009
United Supermarkets has purchased 15 acres in Roanoke, Texas, to construct a new distribution center (DC) slated for completion on Sept. 1, 2010.

The 200,000-square foot, Dallas-Fort Worth DC will be developed and operated by Exel and located in the Alliance Global Logistics Hub, part of the 17,000-acre AllianceTexas industrial park developed by commercial real estate firm Hillwood. Construction of the new DC will begin in mid-November.

United Supermarkets has a headquarters office and DC in Lubbock, Texas, and operates six stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Robert Taylor, vice president of logistics for United Supermarkets, says all of United’s frozen food, 90% of its produce, and 75% of its dry grocery will originate from the Dallas-Fort Worth DC.

“Having a second facility in the Metroplex also will provide additional room for us at our Lubbock DC, which has been operating at maximum capacity for a while now,” says Taylor.
