Amazon’s business in the UK has grown exponentially since it started operations there in 1998. During the Christmas 2006 season, www.amazon.co.uk received 750,000 orders--almost 9 orders per second--on its busiest day, the company said.

The new Swansea center will be the largest foreign direct investment project in Wales since 2000 and a significant addition to the revitalization of Swansea, an historic industrial center rapidly being transformed into a modern commercial and tourist center.

“This new development will play an integral part in fulfilling current and future demand and we feel that the site’s great location, coupled with the ability to draw from a pool of strong local talent, will make this an extremely successful operation,” said Allan Lyall, Vice President of European Operations at Amazon.
