Trade Direct eases the move of goods through Customs by consolidating them in one shipment even though they may be delivered to a variety of destinations. An advantage is that shipments need not be separated, eliminating the need for receiving country distribution centers in order to break them apart.
Trade Direct has previously been implemented with outbound shipments from Europe to the U.S., from Asia to Europe, among others. UPS points out that in 2004, the U.S. and European trade was 441.5 billion, and Canada’s two-way trade with Europe was $62.9 billion.
