A major finding of the study is that of companies with $5 billion or more in revenue, one-quarter of them will be spending between $500,000 and $10 million on adoption of the technology during 2004. The study indicates that while large retailers expect to have fairly significant returns from their adoption of RFID, some 30% of survey respondents don’t think that adoption will lead to increased revenue during the first five years of its implementation. Responding to a variety of needs, the survey says over the next 18 months, 70% off companies with $5 billion or more will set out on RFID initiatives. The study, “RFID: How Far, How Fast?” was conducted by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, the Retail Systems Alert Group and the ePC Group, Ltd.
