Michael McGrath, president and CEO of i2 Technologies, Inc. (Dallas, www.i2.com) received a special award from the Supply-Chain Council (Washington, D.C.) at its Supply-Chain World conference this week in Philadelphia. The award recognized his vision and contributions to the development of the Supply-Chain Operations Reference-model (SCOR) in the 1990s. McGrath facilitated the effort to define a cross-industry standard for supply chain management processes.

"Mike's vision and unique ability to bring together organizations intent on building the first industry-standard model for supply chains have changed the course of how we discuss, compare and improve supply chains worldwide," said Rick Hoole, lead partner, Supply Chain Innovation practice, PRTM and board member of the Supply-Chain Council. "The SCOR-model exists today thanks to the founding team's passion and leadership."

In his acceptance speech McGrath said he was honored to be recognized and that there's never been a more exciting time for supply-chain professionals to really transform their companies. McGrath noted that the SCOR acronym was inspired by a musical "score," and the need for supply chain organizations to orchestrate a complex mix of trading partners.

The Supply-Chain Council, a not-for-profit industry association, and its SCOR-model, were created as part of a collaborative effort led by PRTM, AMR Research and some 68 other organizations to develop a standard reference model to drive supply chain performance. Today the Supply-Chain Council membership has grown to more than 800 organizations.

"Before the development of the SCOR-model, our industry faced tremendous complexity to consistently address supply chain processes due to conflicting terms, definitions and benchmarks," said Richard Sherman, director, Global Supply Chain Strategy, Enterprise Partner Group, Microsoft Corporation and board member of the Supply-Chain Council. "The SCOR-model brought clarity and best in class thinking to create a flexible, robust way to organize and advance supply chains."
