Boeing is keeping quiet, but its entry into the competition for a new U.S. Air Force tanker (the KC-X) could signal plans to launch a freighter that would compete with the Airbus A330-200F. The Airbus freighter, with the capacity to handle a 69-ton payload over 3,200 nautical miles, garnered 32 initial orders. The current 767-300F can carry 55 tons a similar distance, said Air Transport World. The rumored 767-200LRF long-range freighter would carry a smaller payload for longer distances, providing some of the non-stop appeal of Boeing's 777-200F.
