Con-way Introduces Consolidation and Distribution Service

April 9, 2009
Consolidation and Distribution service focuses Con-way's less-than-truckload, truckload and multimodal services on speed to market and cost reduction.

Con-way Inc.'s Consolidation and Distribution service for shippers and consignees is designed to reduce transit times and lower total delivered cost of goods, says the carrier. "Before we began using Con-way's Consolidation and Distribution services, freight delivery to some of our retail stores in Florida was unreliable,” said Marty Flaherty, vice president of logistics, Sephora USA, Inc. "Today we leverage the combination of Con-way's full truckload and less-than-truckload services, and enjoy the benefit of reduced costs and going direct to market with a single point of contact. We've gained on-time service, full visibility into our supply chain and customized shipping solutions — everything we need to deliver the products our clients want, when they want them.”

In addition to leveraging modes, Con-way says its new Consolidation and Distribution service can provide value-added services such as light assembly, kitting and labeling.

"It's more important than ever for shippers to reduce their total landed costs and they can't afford to do so at the expense of customer service and their competitive advantage,” said Tom Nightingale, vice president, communications and chief marketing officer, Con-way Inc. "Con-way's Consolidation and Distribution service provides a single-source transportation solution that can be customized to take freight from the first to the last mile. This product is a simple, flexible way for shippers to get their freight to market faster and more reliably, while keeping inventory, warehousing and transportation costs down.”
