In what it calls a continuation of its aggressive nationwide expansion, FedEx Freight announced it had opened newly constructed facilities in Des Plaines, Ill.; Salem, Ore.; Texarkana, Ark. and Springfield, Mass. It also expanded operations at its West Babylon, NY facility on Long Island through a supplemental building.

The centers in Illinois, Oregon and Arkansas replace existing facilities.

The new Des Plaines facility is 44,000 square feet and includes 76 service doors. The Salem location is on six acres, covers 10,000 square feet and has 28 service doors. The Texarkana site has 36 doors, replacing a 24-door facility in the area. The additional Long Island facility increased the number of dock doors from 30 to 60.

Other facilities that expanded capacity include Gardena, Calif., Youngstown, Ohio and Pocono Summit, Pa. A new center in Sacramento, Calif. is scheduled to open in 2006.
