In its role as official logistics and express delivery sponsor of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, UPS expects to deliver 19 million items by the end of the games.

Included in the items UPS expects to deliver by the closing ceremonies in Beijing are games-related equipment and support materials used at the competition venues. These range from tennis balls and canoes to computers and scoreboards.

UPS is operating 24 hours a day out of the Olympic Logistics Center, its largest single customer facility in Asia. The center is comprised of four warehouses totaling over 2 million square feet of space.

At the peak of operation, UPS relied on a staff of 2,000, along with 217 trucks and package vans.

Among the items handled, UPS notes 254 canoes, kayaks and rowboats delivered on behalf of 61 national Olympic committees. On the other end of the size spectrum, it also delivered commemorative pins and flash drives.
