Railroads Move to Boost Intermodal Service

The corridor is designed to tie together the West Coast and Southeast region of the country. Although there is provision to expand the service as traffic increases, initially it will include two intermodal trains in each direction, each day.

For its part, BNSF will expand capacity on its rail lines that connect Avard, Okla., Memphis, Tenn. and Birmingham, Ala. CSX will expand its rail line between Birmingham and Atlanta and its intermodal terminal in the greater Atlanta area at Fairburn, Ga. Part of the agreement between the two carriers is a provision to continue interlining rail service between Memphis and Florida as well as improving connections with the Carolinas and other key southeast destinations.
