Swift Reduces Fuel Costs while Maintaining Supply Security

Aug. 16, 2010
Swift Transportation is using a fuel management solution to maintain security of its fuel supply, leading to reduced retains and run-outs, and lowering fuel costs with a larger portfolio of suppliers

Truckload carrier Swift Transportation has extended its contract for Fuel Management System (FMS) software and services from FuelQuest Inc. for an additional five years. Swift will also begin using FuelQuest's delivery and invoice reconciliation applications.

The FMS solution helps Swift maintain security of its fuel supply, leading to reduced retains and run-outs, and lowering fuel costs with a larger portfolio of suppliers.

"Our requirements are not simple," points out Joe Broski, Swift's assistant director of fuel procurement. The truckload carrier manages 16,200 trucks, 49,000 trailers and 35 major terminals throughout the United States and Mexico.

FMS has helped streamline Swift's fuel operations by providing:
● Just-in-time inventory management with demand forecasting.
● Accurate supplier invoice reconciliation accounting for price, freight and tax.
● Optimized order and dispatch management, which helps reduce fuel costs.
