U.S. Leads Export Volume Through Hong Kong

With a throughput of 198,202 tonnes, June air freight was up 8.6% at Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd. (HACTL). For the second quarter, HACTL registered a 7.9% increase. And volumes were up 5.6% for the first six months of 2005.

Leading cargo destinations included the U.S. (which increased 21% in June when compared with the prior year) and Europe, which was up 10.2%.

Export volume is likely to continue to drive overall tonnage growth for the second half of the year, according to the company. Second quarter demand was robust in major export markets: Mainland China (+18.5%), US (+5.6%), and Europe (+10.3%). Aggregate export volume for the first half of 2005 was 629,268 tonnes, up 7.6% compared with same period last year.
