XTRA Lease, a provider of trailer rentals and leases in the U.S. and Canada, is offering to let fleets and shippers who pick up a rental trailer from an east or southeast branch use the trailer free for up to 30 days, as long as they drop it off at a branch in California. The company hopes this collaboration will assist carriers who need westbound one-way trailers while helping the company address its balance issue.

“Our goal is to create a win-win solution for carriers and XTRA Lease,” says Bill Franz, CEO and president of XTRA Lease. “Customers receive use of a dry van trailer to take wherever they need it, and they can use it for no cost for up to 30 days. For us, it provides the opportunity to place trailers where we need them and where our West coast customers need them.

XTRA Lease’s fleet is disproportionately balanced, Franz explains. “With a surplus of west-to-east freight traffic, it’s created an oversupply of trailers for us in the east and southeast. We’re turning to creative solutions to adapt – while helping our industry partners who need one-way trailers going west.”

The free trailer incentive is available to qualified companies.
