Alien Technology Corp. (Morgan Hill, Calif.) formed an alliance with Microsoft (Redmond, Wash.) whereby Alien radio-frequency identification reader and tag products will be supported by Microsoft's RFID technology. Microsoft is using Alien RFID tags and European-compliant high-powered ALR-8780 readers to demonstrate its RFID technology at the Microsoft TechEd EMEA conference this week in Amsterdam.

"The Microsoft RFID Infrastructure, with its 'plug-and-play' functionality and open APIs, will play a key role in the integration of RFID with mainstream business applications and in the leveraging of RFID data for real-time visibility and decision making," said Andrew Berger, vice president, international, Alien Technology Corporation.
