ORLANDO, Fla.—Mike Ihlein, chief executive officer of Brambles, has announced that the company has acquired LeanLogistics for $45 million in cash.
LeanLogistics will operate as a division of CHEP, a provider of pallet and container pooling services. CHEP tracks millions of pallet movements through more than 21,000 locations across the U.S., according to Ihlein.
Ihlein says the acquisition will enable CHEP to provide a new service to new and existing customers. “LeanLogistics provides on-demand network optimization solutions to more than 40 major corporations, including many in the fast-moving consumer goods sector, with a network in excess of 4,000 transporters,” he says.
“Combining CHEP’s extensive customer and information base with LeanLogistics’ customer network and innovative technology will enable us to offer a service that reduces transportation costs and optimizes supply chain efficiency,” Ihlein adds. “By helping our customers and carriers to operate more efficiently, the acquisition of LeanLogistics will also strengthen our commitment to delivering environmentally sustainable solutions.”
“We will now be able to offer customers the ability to optimize transport routes and reduce empty transport miles by using the most efficient transport provider available,” says Kevin Shuba, group president. This will be possible through the leveraging of CHEP’s extensive database of supply chain movements and the innovative technology of LeanLogistics.”
The president and CEO of LeanLogistics, Dan Dershem, will continue to manage LeanLogistics and will report to Shuba.
The acquisition is expected to be completed on Mar. 7.
