ARLINGTON, Va.—Pack Expo International, scheduled for Nov. 9-13 in Chicago, has a new focus this year: Pack Expo Green.

Technologies showcased by more than 2,000 exhibitors will address sustainability issues, such as source reduction, minimization of greenhouse-gas emissions and waste and rising levels of recycling and recycled content, according to the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI), producer of the event.

To help attendees identify exhibitors highlighting sustainable solutions, PMMI will use special icons to flag listings on www.packexpo.com, in the show directory and in participating exhibitors’ booths.
In addition, a new search function on the Web site will reveal exhibitors that offer sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies.

The conference, also, will carry the green theme. A sustainability track will be featured as part of each day's program schedule, according to PMMI.

Each of the keynote sessions will address sustainability. Amy Zettlemoyer-Lazar, packaging director of Sam’s Club and co-manager of the Wal-Mart sustainability value network, will present "Keeping Score: How Wal-Mart and its Suppliers Continue to Advance Packaging Change, Innovation and Sustainability." Zettlemoyer-Lazar will provide an update on the Wal-Mart sustainability scorecard and detail the next steps in its evolution. Additionally, Wal-Mart will staff a Wal-Mart sustainability scorecard information center during the show.

Other presentations include speeches by Betsy Cohen, vice president of sustainability at Nestle; Trevor Cusworth, director at Deloitte Consulting LLP; and Glenn A. Wright, commercial vice president of North American basic plastics at Dow Chemical Co.
