Automated Packaging Systems (Streetsboro, Ohio), received a product design award for its AirPouch void-fill air pillows with EZ-Tear perforations. The National Institute of Packaging, Handling and Logistics Engineers (NIPHLE) presented the award at its annual conference in Baltimore in June.
AirPouch received the award in the design competition’s “Short-Life Packaging” category for ergonomic and productivity enhancing features of its EZ-Tear perforations. The EZ-Tear perforation design consists of a cut part way through the regular perforation, reportedly making it easy for packers to grab a strip of air pillows and quickly tear off as many as they need.
The National Institute of Packaging, Handling, and Logistics Engineers (NIPHLE) celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Baltimore Conference. While the organization focuses on the packaging, handling and logistics needs of government agencies, especially the military, it provides a unique forum for idea exchange related to the shipping and storing of all industrial goods.
NIPHLE sponsors the annual design competition to honor outstanding development work in four categories: Long-life Packaging, Short-life Packaging, Material Handling and Computer Software Programs/Systems.
