Television shopping network QVC announced plans to build a $75-million, 1 million sq.-ft. distribution center in Florence, S.C. The facility will eventually employ 400 people said company officials, who expect it to open in the middle of 2007.
In addition to the location’s proximity to Interstates 95 and 20, rail lines and the Port of Charleston, a combination of incentives lured the company to the site. Florence county provided a nearly $1.5 million incentive package, and the state offered to complete $2 million worth of infrastructure improvements.
“Florence was chosen for several reasons, including the availability of a skilled labor market, grant and tax incentives, and its established transportation resources,” said Tom Downs, QVC executive vice president of operations and services, in a press release.
