Intermec (Everett, Wash.) has entered into an aftermarket reselling agreement with NACCO Materials Handling Group Inc. (Mayfield Heights, Ohio) to provide vehicle mount computers, handheld bar code scanners and RFID (radio frequency identification) technology equipment for NMHG's Hyster and Yale brand lift trucks.
ADC and RFID enabled lift trucks are now available for order directly from Hyster or Yale dealers with Intermec equipment installed, giving customers the benefit of improved asset utilization and performance, and the convenience of having a single point of contact for service and support.
"The material handling and information technology industries have converged," said Jonathan Dawley, manager of business development for NAACO, "to the extent that customers are recognizing the efficiencies of enabling technology at the point of material handling. NMHG recognizes that the forklift is becoming an information portal that can deliver efficiencies to customers well beyond the standard features of the truck."
It is estimated that approximately 70% of warehouse lift trucks in North America have mobile computing or data collection equipment installed.
