Industry professionals from around the world demonstrated their skills in safe lift truck operations and pallet building at the International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition 2006 held at Hactl's Super Terminal 1 in Hong Kong.

Organized by Hactl, and co-organized by the Airport Authority Hong Kong, the International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition 2006 was held with the objective of encouraging industry partners to adopt best practices in the areas of safe lift truck operations as well as pallet build-up. Four international airlines, Air China, British Airways, Japan Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines sent a team from its home base to Hong Kong to participate in the competition. Local teams from Hactl as well as Multi Express (H.K.) Limited, who was the overall winner of Hactl's Build Pallet Competition 2006 this August, also contested for the championship in the event.

Constituting part of Hactl's 30th anniversary celebration, the competition saw Japan Airlines win the "Pallet Building" category, while KLM Royal Dutch Airlines won the "Safety Award" under the "Lift truck Operation" category. Hactl took the winner title of the "Lift truck Operation" category as well as the overall championship.

"With the concerted efforts of all relevant stakeholders, the safety performance of the industry has remained generally good in the past,” said Pang Kwok-lam, chief occupational safety officer, Labour Department, in the opening ceremony of the event. “This industry competition is a very meaningful event which helps foster a safety culture of the trade and strengthen the safety awareness of both the employers and employees,"

Anthony Wong, managing director of Hactl said, "We are pleased to collaborate with the Airport Authority Hong Kong in organizing the International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition 2006. Being one of the major players in the air cargo industry, Hactl has taken upon ourselves the responsibility to continuously enhance professional standards. The event provides a chance for us and for our industry partners from around the world to learn from each other operational skills and safety practices through friendly competition, thereby promoting industry best practices in the spirit of partnership."
