Booked and Billed Bulk Handling Systems Sales Trending Down

NAPLES, Fla.--The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) reports that its August 2008 Booked Orders Index was 111, down 2 points or a decrease of 3% from the July 2008 Index of 113 (1990=100). The August 2008 Index is down 24% from the August 2007 Index of 146.

August Booked Orders Indexes were 205 for Bulk Handling Equipment* and 76 for Unit Handling Equipment* (1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Booked Orders was 145 in August, which shows a 2% decrease from the July 2008 Twelve-Month Index of 148.

The CEMA Billed Sales (shipments) Index was 142 in August. The August Index is down 1 point or 1% from the July 2008 Index of 143. The August 2008 Index is down 10 points or 7% from the August 2007 Index of 152.

August Billed Sales Indexes were 207 for Bulk Handling Equipment* and 130 for Unit Handling Equipment* (1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Billed Sales was 146 in August. There was no change in this Index from August to the July 2008 Twelve-Month Index of 146.

* Since Bulk Handling Systems booked and billed sales are reported quarterly and are averaged back to the two preceding months, the booked and billed indexes for non-quarter ending months for Bulk Handling Equipment and Category X, total of all categories, are adjusted quarterly.
