WB McGuire, a division of Overhead Door Corp. (Dallas), announced that it will stop production of loading dock equipment and close its plant in Hudson, N.Y., on July 31. Excluding the land and building, Systems Incorporated (Milwaukee) bought all assets of WB McGuire. Manufacturing technology will be moved to Systems’ factories in Germantown, Wis., and Malvern, Ark.

An Overhead Door representative said the action reflects the company’s decision reflects a desire to focus its resources on its core business. “McGuire is our only operation in the material handling industry,” Jim Fanning, vice president of marketing, said. “We found that it would require an enormous investment for us to become competitive in the material handling category.”

The 72 employees who will lose their jobs will reportedly receive severance pay. McGuire products manufactured in Hudson were sold through Overhead Door’s independent distributors. Overhead Door is a subsidiary of Sanwa Shutter Corp. of Tokyo, Japan.
