One of the world's largest plastic bag companies, Hilex Poly (Hartsville, S.C.), will close its plant in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. The closure is part of an integration strategy that the company has been implementing since its acquisition of Vanguard Plastics in October 2005.

"Hilex' new state of the art facility in Jerome, Idaho is now operating at designed efficiencies, and it along with our nationwide network of 10 other manufacturing locations are well positioned to serve our customers in the Western Market," said Hilex CEO, Leon Farahnik. Hilex will maintain its distribution location in Southern California.

Throughout 2006, the integration of Vanguard has resulted in a centralized customer service organization, a single ERP business system, and a restructured sales force to more effectively serve new and existing customers. "The aim of these efforts was to continuously improve the level of service and cost competitiveness that our customers expect. We are excited to enter 2007 as one unified company capable of delivering the value that all of our stakeholders expect," said Farahnik.
