Markem Corporation, a company that offers radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions for manufacturers in the food, beverage, consumer packaged goods (CPG) and pharmaceutical industries, was recently named an authorized RFID specialist by Zebra Technologies, a company that provides on-demand printing solutions for business and process improvement and a pioneer in the targeted adoption of radio frequency identification.

"Our relationship with Zebra is great for manufacturers that want to take a gradual, staged approach to RFID. Most companies want to start RFID now, and that can be done quickly by combining a Zebra desktop RFID printer for manual tag application with Markem’s RFID software and services," said Todd Warden, vice president of business development, Markem. "As RFID tagging shifts to production lines and data becomes available for improving business processes, we can then seamlessly shift to a fully automated RFID solution that helps unlock the business value created by RFID deployments."

In particular, the Markem/Zebra relationship complements Markem's new RFID Smart Start bundle -- a conveyor-mounted automated RFID tag applicator that is combined with RFID software and services to help manufacturers get RFID tagging up and running quickly, based on a long-term technology platform. Zebra printers used for pallet tagging and exception handling complement Markem equipment, software and services to provide a full solution for customers.
