VAN NUYS, CALIF—Currently shipping 50,000 packages daily from its Van Nuys fulfillment center, Moulton Logistics Management is looking to double that number within the next two months.

The move to automation at the facility is in response to continuing demand in the direct response (DR) industry. Moulton Management is a provider order fulfillment, call center and integrated logistics services to direct response, retail and multi-channel merchants. The expansion included order management software development, process changes and automation.

The company notes that though the DR channel is growing rapidly—even as others are experiencing a drop due to the economy—it has idiosyncrasies: volume can increase suddenly. A provider’s systems and infrastructure need to be rapidly scalable. Moulton notes its strategic partners, UPS Logistics, Ajillus and Dematic, were of great assistance in helping deploy a fast, flexible and highly scalable solution.

The facility is up and running well, according to Patrick Moulton, vice president of marketing. “Not only have we met the goals of our initial project,” he claims, “but we can now quickly and easily roll out successive facilities across our logistics network to meet substantial growth in demand as well as our new customer acquisition goals.”

Moulton plans to geographically diversify—including mirroring the progress at Van Nuys at its port facility in Charleston, SC and additional satellite facilities.
