Air Products has signed on as lead contractor for a two-year pilot project with the Defense Logistics Agency's Research and Development program.

As part of the contract, Air Products will help develop the infrastructure for an indoor hydrogen fueling station for 20 lift trucks used for daily warehouse operations at the Defense Distribution Depot in Susquehanna, Pa.

Air Products will retrofit 20 battery-powered Class 1 lift trucks with full-cell power packs from General Hydrogen, a subsidiary of Plug Power Inc. The hydrogen full-cell-powered trucks will operate along with lead-acid battery lift trucks, and cost and operational data will be collected and analyzed.

The results will ultimately be used to support the development and commercialization of hydrogen full-cell technologies for the Department of Defense.
