VALVETRAB Compact Saves Space and Provides Installation Flexibility

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Phoenix Contact, a leader in the development and manufacture of specialized electronic components and connection systems, introduces VALVETRAB Compact, the next generation of DIN-rail-mountable surge protection devices. VALVETRAB Compact measures just 12mm per channel, the smallest footprint in the industry. Symmetrical plugs and bases provide the highest degree of installation flexibility, whether the power wires come from the top or the bottom.

VALVETRAB Compact was developed primarily for the OEM marketplace. The high energy, high feature surge protection device can fit into the small space requirements common with industrial and telecom OE power cabinets.

VALVETRAB Compact is designed to handle worldwide power system configurations, making it an easy solution for international OEM customers. It meets the technical, installation and certification standards for worldwide acceptance, allowing one surge protection solution for use in global installations. Different versions are available to address 1-, 2-, or 3-phase power systems.

Local and remote indication provides diagnostics for the status of the protection plugs. The local indication uses an easy-to-interpret status display: green means all systems go, while red indicates it’s time to replace the surge protection plug. Form C contact, available in the base unit, provides remote indication.

The pluggable surge components can easily be removed prior to “hi-pot” testing so that there is no mistaken interference with results. In the unlikely event of a failure, the plugs used in the VALVETRAB Compact allow fast and easy replacement.

40kA (8/20) surge current handling capacity, fast response and low protection level ensure that the installation is protected from switching transients as well as the effects of lightning events.
