The Raymond Corp. (Green, N.Y. was awarded two Central New York (CNY) Employer of Choice awards in recognition of the organization’s best practices in human resources policies and procedures.

“Raymond has made significant investments in all aspects of human resources management to drive the success of our business, and we are very proud our efforts are being recognized and rewarded,” said Steve VanNostrand, vice president of Human Resources at Raymond. “We fully recognize the need for our employees to lead safe, healthy and balanced lives, and work-life balance issues are always a priority for Raymond. We recognize that employees who enjoy a balance are happier, healthier and more productive -- a win-win situation for everyone.”

Raymond’s first award was for Best Practices in Occupational Health/Safety/Security, which was given in recognition of Raymond’s outstanding safety program. Raymond’s robust safety program consists of five key areas: policies and procedures; training; problem identification and resolution; communications; and reward and recognition. Raymond’s human resources team partners with the company’s employees, line managers and safety managers to ensure the success of these programs.

In addition to providing online access to policies and procedures, and progressive, team-based recognition for safe behaviors, Raymond also provides return-to-work options for both occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries. Raymond’s commitment has improved employee morale, increased productivity and reduced worker’s compensation costs.

A Donlon Award was awarded to Raymond for Best Practices in Family Workplace Policies based on the company's exemplary corporate citizenship. A Donlon Award is a special award granted when the CNY judges are impressed by a specific company behavior or program. Raymond’s culture has strong roots in the local community, and although the company is part of a large multinational group, the company maintains the positive aspects of its small-town, family-owned origins.

For example, the organization recently made a significant financial donation to support the construction of a new fire station in the village of Greene. During the devastating flooding in the Southern Tier, a number of Raymond employees suffered significant losses. Raymond, its dealers and employees provided approximately $100,000 in direct financial assistance to Raymond employees who were affected by the devastating flooding in the Southern Tier. Raymond’s commitment to employees does not stop at the end of the workday.

The Central New York Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management and Syracuse United Way Success by 6 recognizes employers dedicated to Human Resource Excellence and Family Friendly Policies. The Manufacturer’s Association of Central New York sponsors the CNY Employer of Choice awards. Raymond was one of 15 companies nominated to compete for Best Practice awards, as well as overall excellence in Human Resources and the Donlon awards for family-friendly policies.
