The Rite-Vu Light Communication System detects when a lift truck is inside of a trailer and alerts loading dock personnel to stay clear of dock openings while any trailer is in service, improving safety and productivity. The system is designed to help prevent lift truck-pedestrian collisions, a leading cause of lift truck-related fatalities.

From Rite-Hite Corp., the new system also features a vehicle restraint light communication system for another level of protection against potentially catastrophic trailer-separation accidents. It does so using lights and an alarm to enhance communication about the status of trailers secured to the dock with the company’s Dok-Lok vehicle restraints.

The Rite-Vu system consists of three individual products: Pedestrian-Vu, Corner-Vu and Leveler-Vu. Pedestrian-Vu includes an infrared transmitter mounted on the lift truck; receivers mounted on the overhead dock doorframe with an audible alarm; two clear acrylic virtual filament lighting elements with a replaceable amber LED bulb in each; and a control box.

Corner-Vu and Leveler-Vu provide clear, visual communication of the vehicle restraint status directly in the lift truck operators’ line of sight—when they are entering and exiting the trailer. Corner-Vu, which also uses virtual filament technology, provides immediate Dok-Lok status to the lift truck operator before entering a trailer. Leveler-Vu confirms the status of the vehicle restraint to the lift truck operator while inside the trailer and provides a reference point for lift truck operators backing out of the trailer.
