TORONTO, ON – SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SMY:TSX-VEN) ("SAMSys"), a world leading provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) hardware solutions and RFID integration consulting services, today announced that the U.S. Patent Office has granted SAMSys patent number 6,617,962, titled "A System for Multi Standard RFID Tags". This patent was filed in 2000 as one in a series of patent applications for SAMSys, all of which relate to the company's RFID innovations.

The SAMSys patent outlines a system designed to interrogate a disparate population of RFID tags, regardless of frequency or protocol, through an innovative reader architecture. The concept of multi-protocol, multi-frequency RFID reader systems has gained general industry acceptance through the acknowledgement that many of the targeted Supply Chain Management applications likely to be installed in the near term will have to accommodate tags operating with diverse protocols, with some utilizing a plurality of frequencies. The SAMSys patented architecture seamlessly facilitates the coexistence of multiple tag types developed under fast-evolving, non-parallel standards and operating at differing frequencies. This flexibility provides optimized functionality and performance, thereby reinforcing the value proposition for the deployment of the technology. SAMSys Technologies will utilize the patented architecture to continue to broaden the company's focus on further advancements of product offerings and services within their portfolio.

"The issuing of this patent is most gratifying for us. It represents the most compelling formula for the adoption of RFID technology, as it facilitates the free and open choice of tags from many suppliers, migration from legacy installations to state-of-the-art technological improvements, and removes the threat of near term obsolescence," says Cliff Horwitz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SAMSys. "The industry, as a whole, has now adopted this concept as 'mainstream' and it has been incorporated into the technology platform which has been so enthusiastically embraced by those intending to implement RFID systems in the near future."

This patent represents the third patent granted to SAMSys. The other patents are titled "A Tag Evaluation Module for Radio Frequency Identification Systems" and "Method and System for Tracking Clustered Items."

SAMSys' comprehensive line of RFID readers spans low frequency, high frequency and UHF and supports a very broad range of protocols. Their products meet many established industry standards and SAMSys plays an active role in setting new, emerging industry standards. SAMSys also offers a selection of reader solutions including standard frequency-specific modules, custom-made application specific reader systems, and OEM modules to provide tailored solutions for a wide variety of supply chain management, logistics management, and tracking and fulfillment applications. In addition to providing reader solutions, SAMSys offers consulting services that focus on the front-end of the RFID implementation process. Visit SAMSys at: www.samsys.com and www.investorfile.com.
