ATLANTA—UPS is expecting deliveries on the busiest day of its 100th holiday season to surpass 22 million.
UPS said that, on its peak day, Wednesday, Dec. 19, it will deliver more than 250 packages every second through its air and ground network. On Friday, Dec. 21, UPS will handle its largest volume of air express packages, delivering some 5.6 million air packages—nearly two and a half times its normal air volume.
UPS also stated that it expects more than 32 million online package tracking requests on Dec. 19, more than double the norm.
More than 60,000 seasonal employees will be called upon to help UPS during the holiday surge, and the company’s ground fleet of 94,542 package cars, vans and tractors will expand by approximately 7,000 vehicles.
Additionally, UPS Airlines will add 423 more flights per day during the week of Dec. 17-21.
