Before he became an author and speaker on occupational safety, Richard Keyworth was a fire marshal serving the area near Chicago's O'Hare airport. This is home to one of the country's biggest industrial parks, where forklifts are abundant. Abundant also describes the stupid stunts that bored operators tried during breaks and overnight shifts. I'll let him tell the rest of the story--and the reason for this particular gallery:
"I was traveling around the country years back talking about Powered Industrial Truck Safety. The first question I would usually get was 'Hey, are you a forklift operator?' My reply was NO, I am the one who picks up your remains and tries to save your tails when you do something stupid! Then after a few quick grisly stories they quickly came to realize I might know what I am talking about. I never left a classroom without men and women coming over to thank me for talking to them and trying to keep them safe."
As you'll read in our blogged backgrounder on Mr. Keyworth, he usually saw the ugly aftermath of some pretty stupid stunts like forklift jousting and pallet truck racing. This gallery shows stunts like those among a collection of brainless tricks--not to celebrate them but to illustrate what might be going on in your warehouse without your knowing it. These just scratch the surface of the sea of similar videos people post online for their shot at fame. Lame is more like it.
