The Supply Chain Council has announced the winners of the 2010 Awards for Supply Chain Excellence

The Supply Chain Council (SCC), a global not-for-profit management association, has announced the winners of the 2010 Awards for Supply Chain Excellence. Infineon Technologies AG received the Award for Supply Chain Operational Excellence and the Global Award for Supply Chain Excellence. The Research Center on Logistics and After-Sales Service (CELS) at the University of Bergamo (Italy), Department of Industrial Engineering received the Award for Supply Chain Academic Excellence. SCC maintains the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model, a widely accepted framework for evaluating and comparing supply chain activities and performance.

“Superior supply chain performance is essential for meeting business performance and financial goals,” says Joseph Francis, executive director of the Supply Chain Council. “It takes a real team effort to make sustainable performance improvements across department and organizational boundaries. We commend the winners for their achievements and for sharing their knowledge and application of SCOR with the supply chain community.”

* Global Award winner Infineon used the SCOR model to build an agile and adaptable semiconductor supply chain. Hundreds of employees, customers, suppliers and production partners were involved in the 18-month project. Together they created a corporate supply chain organization and an overarching demand-to-cash process. Results included improved flexibility and reduction of total finished goods inventory levels. The results of this project and other business improvements boosted shareholder confidence, which pushed up the company’s share price from below half a Euro to over 5 Euros.

* The Operational Excellence award recognizes an organization that demonstrates excellence in the design, operation, or improvement of a supply chain. Intelligroup Supply Chain Management Competency Group and Danfoss Trata tied for second place.

* The Academic Excellence award recognizes an organization that contributes to superior applied research that advances the supply chain management body of knowledge. In collaboration with SINTEF, an independent research firm based in Trondheim, Norway, CELS applied SCOR and SCC’s Customer Chain Operations Reference (CCOR) model to the after-sales organization of Orkel. They created a user-friendly dashboard for measuring and visualizing the after sales performance for the Norwegian manufacturer of farm machinery.

* The Defense Sector award went to the Northern Distribution Network (NDN), a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Defense led by the U.S. Transportation Command that includes the U.S. Central Command, U.S. European Command, U.S. Department of State, and the Defense Logistics Agency. The NDN project identified and established new distribution routes that connect Baltic and Caspian ports with Afghanistan via Russia, Central Asia and the Caucasus.
